Northern Flights

We had a pretty good weekend. Losing to the Dockers on Saturday, but winning the rest of our games pretty soundedly gave us the second best +/- to put us into the top 8 on Sunday.

We faced a strong Giddy Up team on Sunday morning and managed to get 7 points on them. Then we faced a strong Lunchbox team that was still stinging from their loss to the Dockers. They had the will, and rolled over us 15-5. Mayhem didn't have enough players to field a team for the last game, so we won it by default, which put us 7th overall.

June 4/5: Mixed Easterns - Devens, MA

by Derek Hodgson

seVen came in seeded 13th at this tournament. Our initial seeding put us in the pool with the top ranked 6 Trained Monkeys, who lost in the semis at UPA's last year. They were our first game of the day, after a first round bye. seVen came out playing hot, pushing for all of our points, after along game, 6TM scored to go up 10-9, as the soft cap horn went off. They ended up taking the game 13-9. Our next two games were against a NY team Redrum, and Montreal's RIP. We traded points with both teams throughout the game and ended up losing both games by 1 point. After two tough losses, we faced Lonely Joker from New England. We kept on our game and quickly finished up the day witha 13-5 win. So after the first day we were 1-3 and + 2.

Day two, we started slowly against Black & Blue, taking half 8-7. seVen started rolling in the second half and took the game 15-9. Next up was Foot Clan from Pittsburgh. seVen kept on rolling taking the game 15-8. Our third game was against Deadspin, from Mass. On the 7th game in the two days of 30 degreeweather seVen broke down. Everyone was exhausted, and the heat was not helping our mindset. We never actually played our game, and ended up losing 15-5. We finished the tournament 19th/20th.

On a whole the tournament was a great learning experience. We have come a long way since our first tournament in Vermont, and are excited about the rest of the summer.

Next up is Northern Flights in North Bay on June 18/19.
