Seven at Nationals

I would like to congratulate seVen for an amazing 1st Nationals together. This team pulled together to beat their 14th seed in the Mixed division to finish 12th. seVen had a few hurdles to overcome before Nationals even began when four of our guys were not able to join the team in Vancouver for various reasons and then a fifth guy was injured at the practice leading up to the competition.

With 9 guys and 9 gals, seVen started out the tournament against Bodhi – a team that we have played at previous tournaments. Between the two teams, there were only 3 turnovers in the first half, each resulting in a point for the other team. With the score 8-6 for Bodhi at half, seVen gave up two hard up points in a row, and could not recover from this point and the final score was 15-9 for Bodhi. Our next game was against Bonesaw – the top seed in our group. We played an amazing game except a few mistakes where a more experienced Bonesaw team capitalized on our inexperience. The final score was 15-8, but the score did not reflect the effort that Bonesaw had to exert to score their points. Our last game was against Dragoon – another west coast team, and it was a must-win situation to be able to continue competing for a spot among the top 8. Unfortunately, we ran out of gas and we let Dragoon score to many and the final score was 14-9.

This relegated us to the consolation pool right away, so we would face old rivals Rotterdam, Liquid and Krank. We went 3-0 beathing Rotterdam 15-11, Liquid 14-11, and Krank 15-9. This put us in a good position for Saturday.

On Saturday morning we faced Dragoon again, but this time they faced a different seVen. The team battled hard and played a great game and ended up winning 11-10. This game took must have taken a lot of the team as well as the rain and the cold as we saw ourselves on the losing side of games against Prairie Snatch and Gecko. Despite these losses, seVen ended up 12th in the Mixed Division and was almost .500 with a record of 4-5.

Thanks to everyone who helped seVen throughout the year!
